Saffron Walden - A Smart Market Town
Saffron Walden is our ‘go to’ place to visit. We always have a nice couple of hours mooching round the shops, stopping at a cafe for coffee and cake, and generally having a lovely time.
A smart affluent town with really nice shops. It has the usual type of shops associated with affluent coastal towns such as Southwold and Aldeburgh in Suffolk. It offers White Stuff, Seasalt, Fat Face & Crewe as well as independent boutiques and great gift shops (Talents is my favourite gift shop - as it never disappoints for interesting or unique presents).
The Cross Keys Hotel and teashop is a very historic hotel as are most of the houses and properties in the little side streets around the town. I love walking around, taking photos. I’m always spotting new details every time.
The market square is very pretty with some lovely buildings. It's very lively and buzzy on market days. It has stalls selling food (deli stuff) and fish /seafood as well as fruit and vegetables. It also has stalls selling clothes. Definitely worth a visit if you’ve never been before, or a re-visit if you've not been in a while. It gets the thumbs up from me!
