Mersea Island
Mersea Island is a place we’ve been going to a few times a year, for over 10 years. It’s one of those places that makes you feel like you’re on holiday rather than a day out. A vibrant place with a lively community feel. So many beautiful houses on the main street, many to rent for a short break or holiday. The Coast Inn is where we head straight away when we arrive, for a seafood chowder and chips. They do the best chips! A wander down to the jetty (keep an eye out for seals bobbing up and down in the water. If you have time, and the weather is good, take a boat ride around the island (takes about an hour). See the island from the water, is just as great particularly if you like looking at boats (catch a boat for this from the jetty). There is a sandy beach to walk along too. There are plenty of places to eat Oysters and The Company Shed is very popular. Nearby you will see the salt marshes where the Oysters are grown and harvested, as you walk along the pavement near the Coast Inn pub.
