Terling

Terling is a quaint and pretty unspoiled village between Chelmsford, Braintree and Witham. You’ll feel as though you’ve stepped back in time due to the fact there are no (or unseen) housing developments or new houses. This village dates back to the roman times so is steep in history and mentioned in the Doomsday Book. It is a village of two halves, split by the river Ter. It has a really nice circular walk from outside the pub (the Rayleigh Arms) up to the church and back around again via the common or the back lane. It has a great tearoom (the Owl Tearoom) which is currently housed in the Old Surgery building opposite the pub, but will be relocating in 2026 to the old chapel building opposite the church. I can tell you it is worth seeking it out to have tea and cake or a nice sandwich, from a good selection. The tearoom is very popular with walkers and dog walkers.
