Wivenhoe

Wivenhoe is a very special place and hidden away if you don’t know where it is. It is a great little town and a destination place which means you drive in and out (there is water that separates it from Rowhedge which is another lovely twon across from it). Unfortunately you cannot walk between the two as there is no bridge, however there is a little row boat ferry that runs between the two small towns.

Wivenhoe has a train station so a lovely place to live and visit and only a few miles from the centre of Colchester. I find it a peaceful and interesting place to visit (which we do a couple of times a year). It is full of beautiful victorian properties and very photogenic. It has a couple of pubs and cafes and gift shops, so you can always find somewhere to eat or browse. I saw a great sign in one of the cafes calling it Wiviera! We love the place and I love just wandering around the side streets, admiring the old properties or walking along the quayside on a sunny day. On a hot summers day you can be forgiven for thinking you were abroad in a continental area of Europe. You’ll see paddle boarders, rowing teams, and boats going along the river, all of which creates energy and interest. It is definitely worth making the effort to visit the place and see what it has to offer. A nice day out if you live in or near Essex

It is great to see is that boat building is alive and kicking in Wivenhoe!
